How the page comes across A plain-English read of what a visitor and Google will take from the page, and whether it matches what you sell.
Site-wide suggestions Searches you're almost on page one for, titles to rewrite, pages competing with each other and questions people ask. Best with Search Console connected.

Proof it worked Run it again after your changes and watch the score go up.
Encouraging, not critical Results read as improvements to make, not mistakes. You'd rather be associated with positive words than negative ones, especially in a report you share.

What the SEO checker checks

Every check is marked pass, check or fix, with the reason and what to change.

01 Title and description The title tag and meta description Google shows in its results: present, a sensible length, and saying what the page is about.
02 Headings One clear main heading (H1), and subheadings (H2) that break the page into sections Google and visitors can follow.
03 Content depth Whether the page has enough text to explain itself. Pages meant to rank need more than a few lines.
04 Images and links Descriptions (alt text) on images, so Google knows what they show, and links to your other pages so it can find them.
05 Technical signals A mobile-friendly layout, a canonical tag, structured data and a social preview for when the page is shared.
06 Keywords and suggestions The searches the page should target, plus, with Additional suggestions, the site-wide fixes most likely to move you up Google.
The guide

How to check the SEO of a website, page by page

Google ranks pages, not whole websites. Each page needs to be clear about what it offers and who it is for, and an SEO checker that looks at one page in depth will find more than a quick scan of the whole site.

Why check one page at a time

Your homepage, each service page and each blog post compete for different searches. A quick site-wide scan tells you how many pages have a missing description; a page-by-page SEO check tells you what will help a particular page rank and what to change on it.

Start with the pages that matter most to the business, usually the homepage and your main service or product pages, then work outwards.

The on-page checks that matter most

The title and description are what Google shows in its results, so they need to say clearly what the page is about. One main heading tells Google and visitors the subject; subheadings break the page into sections they can follow.

Beyond that, the SEO Auditor checks whether the page has enough text to explain itself, whether images have descriptions, whether it links to your other pages, and the technical signals: a mobile-friendly layout, a canonical tag, structured data and a social preview. Each check is marked pass, check or fix, with what to change.

From a score to the keywords the page should target

A score alone doesn't tell you what the page should be about. The SEO Auditor suggests the searches the page should be built around, based on what it says and what people search for, and gives a plain-English read of how the page comes across. If that doesn't match what you sell, that's the first thing to fix.

Find the searches you're nearly ranking for

Tick Additional suggestions and Vantage looks across the whole site. With Search Console connected it picks out searches where you're on page two, positions 11 to 20, where a better title or a stronger section can be enough to reach page one. It also finds titles worth rewriting, pages competing with each other for the same search and questions people ask.

A simple routine

Check a page, make the suggested changes, run it again and watch the score go up. Then move on to the next page. You can check a competitor's page the same way to see how theirs is built. When a page needs rewriting, take it into the Copywriter.

How it works

Three steps

01

Enter the page address.

02

Tick Additional suggestions for ideas across the whole site.

03

Make the suggested changes, then run it again.

Common questions about our SEO checker

How do I check the SEO of a website?

Enter a page address and run the SEO Auditor. You get a score, every on-page SEO check marked pass, check or fix, the keywords the page should target and what to change first. Check your most important pages one at a time.

What does a website SEO checker look at?

Everything on the page that helps Google understand it: the title, description, headings, amount of text, image descriptions, links, structured data, canonical tag and social preview, plus whether it works on a phone.

What is an on-page SEO checker?

One that checks the page itself rather than links from other sites. On-page SEO is the part you control directly, so it's where you can make the most difference yourself.

Can I check my Google ranking for keywords?

Yes, with Search Console connected. It shows the searches each page appears for and its average position, and the SEO Auditor's site-wide suggestions pick out the searches you're nearly on page one for.

Can I check Google PageRank?

Google stopped publishing PageRank scores years ago, so any tool claiming to show it is guessing. What matters is where your pages rank for real searches, which Search Console shows, and how well each page is built, which the SEO checker shows.

Is this an SEO audit tool for the whole site?

It checks one page at a time in depth. Tick Additional suggestions and it also looks across the whole site: titles to rewrite, pages competing with each other, pages with clicks to win back and questions people ask.

Can I check any web page?

Yes, any public page: your homepage, a service page, a blog post or a competitor's page.

How many credits does an SEO check use?

About 8 AI credits with site-wide suggestions, from the 1,000 included each month on the Solo plan.
