What you get

What Search Console does

Trends over time The last 7, 28 or 90 days, so you can spot pages gaining ground or dipping.
The searches behind your visits The phrases people type to find you, with clicks and average position for each one.
Pages, countries and devices See which pages bring the visits, where people search from and whether they use a phone or a computer.

Read-only Vantage only reads your search data. It never changes anything in your Google account.

The Search Console reports you get

The same data as Google Search Console, laid out so you can act on it.

01 Clicks and impressions How often your site was shown in Google and how often people clicked, for the period you choose.
02 Average position Where your pages rank on average for the searches they appear in, so you can check your Google ranking.
03 Searches and pages Every search and every page, sortable, so the ones close to page one stand out.
The guide

Making sense of your Google Search Console data

Google Search Console is the only place Google shows you how your site really performs in search: the searches you appear for, how often you are clicked and where you rank. Its own reports can be hard to read, so Vantage lays them out in plain English.

The four numbers

Impressions are how often your site was shown in Google's results. Clicks are how often people clicked through. Click-through rate is the share of impressions that became clicks. Average position is where your pages ranked, on average, for the searches they appeared in.

How to check your Google ranking

Look at the average position for each search. A position from 1 to 10 is page one; 11 to 20 is page two, close enough to improve. Rankings vary by location and device, so the average over a few weeks is a better guide than searching for yourself, which Google personalises.

Finding the easiest improvements

A search with plenty of impressions but few clicks usually means your title and description are not persuading people; rewriting them can lift clicks without moving position. A search where you sit on page two is often worth a stronger section on the page. The SEO Auditor picks these out for you.

Comparing periods

Choose the last 7, 28 or 90 days and compare with the period before to see which pages and searches are gaining ground or dipping. Google's data runs two to three days behind, so the latest days are left out until they're complete.

Safe to connect, and useful everywhere

Vantage only asks for read-only access, so it can see your search data but never change anything. Once connected, Keyword Ideas, the Marketing Plan and Client Reports use it too.
